The Many Health Benefits of Essential Oils

In today's modern age, synthetic chemicals bombard our bodies through our food, the air, the water, and our medical treatments. Although most modern medicine has been derived from plant chemicals, pharmaceutical companies alter the chemical compounds in order to obtain patents. These alterations lead to many of the adverse side effects associated with modern medicines. As a result, many have turned to natural alternatives to modern medicine like supplemental nutrition and naturopathic healing. Essential oils have quickly become a popular choice for naturally treating different ailments.

Distilled from plants, essential oils contain highly concentrated amounts of unique and diverse natural chemical compounds. Significantly more potent than the dried herbs used in capsule supplements, essential oils require nearly an entire plant to make a single drop. Just a small amount contains enormous benefit.

Essential oils have thousands of uses, each different oil providing multiple benefits. Essential oils have been used to treat:

  • Muscle Pain/Arthritis/Joint Pain
  • Headaches
  • Nausea/Digestion Problems
  • PMS/Menopause
  • Respiratory Problems
  • Sleep Disorders/Insomnia
  • Stress/Anxiety

In addition to these symptomatic treatments, essential oils such as sesame have been shown to reduce the rate of cancer growth in cells. The benefits seem to be endless. Many oils, used to treat infection and heal wounds, feature antibacterial and antiseptic properties. There are also essential oils which have been shown to soothe itching, treat acne and psoriasis, strengthen the body's natural immune system, and speed up metabolism.

Essential oils can be purchased at most health food stores and online. Oils differ from brand to brand. Depending on how you plan to use yours, it will likely be better to purchase it from one particular source. For example, the rose oil which treats muscle cramps differs from the oil used in perfumes. Be sure to do a little research to ensure you purchase the right oils for you.
